Tractor attempts to drag floundering boat ashore
The spectacle in Chatham tonight just before dark was a tow truck attempting to haul a floundering boat out of the water. The "Harry Eric", according to a bystander, ran aground near French Fort Cove and was on its way back tot he Station Wharf Marina when it had more problems near the western end of the marine. The witness said the tow truck, operated by Burke's Towing, winched the boat to the slip where it was resting, listing listing to one side, with its stern partially submerged and partially full of water.
There was a large tractor attempting to haul the boat backwards, and the last thing MO))) witnessed was the the tractor attaching a chain near the bow, and ripping a four foot section of the keel from the boat. There's a high tide tonight at 10:50 if that's any consequence to the recovery efforts.
The City of Miramichi purchased the marina from Station Wharf Marina (SWM) a few years ago and now contract out its operation to the Miramichi Boating and Yacht Club (Douglastown marina). Boats who berth at SWM must have insurance. It's not known if the Harry Eric berths at Station Wharf.
