The death of James David Matchett, husband of the late Elizabeth “Bet” (Fernandez) Matchett, occurred on Thursday, April 29, 2026, at the age of 78. Born in Newcastle, NB, he was the son of the late Willis and Annie (MacAusland) Matchett.

James found great joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially being a dedicated bus driver for 53 years.  He loved the kids and they loved him. He spent his spare time on the lanes as a dedicated member of a mixed bowling league, where his easygoing nature and sense of humour made him a favourite among teammates and friends. Music was another lifelong passion. He shared his talent and love of performing as a proud member of successful bands, including The Saints and Windmill, where he created lasting memories and strong friendships. Whether through sport or song, James brought people together and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
