Donna Marie Magee

1962 – 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce that Donna Marie Magee of Irishtown passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025. A beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, she died peacefully surrounded by love and is deeply missed. Born in Chatham, Miramichi, she was the daughter to the late Arthur Vautour and Marie (Williston) Johnson of MacDougall Settlement.

She is dearly missed by her husband Gary Magee, daughter Samantha Magee Young (Jordan), son Adam Magee (Sara), brother Garth Vautour, sisters Brenda Marchand (Barry), Tracey Vautour (Arnie), and Colleen Clements (Mike); as well as grandchildren Beauden Young, and Calvin Magee. Donna was a talented graphic designer for more than 20 years and her work could be found around the Moncton area and beyond.

Before she was a graphic designer, she was a bank teller at RBC. Her family marvelled at her bravery when she had decided to make such a drastic career change and go back to school to pursue her passion of graphic design. We were so proud of her. An excellent cook and baker, family holidays were always held at their home where she would make a large meal for a birthday or Christmas and it would be heartily enjoyed in the dining room around the large antique mahogany dining room set that she loved so much. She worked next door to her beloved mother's house and would have lunch with her several times a week. The two enjoyed long talks on the screened-in porch. Another large source of joy for her was singing and having parties with her siblings, who are all very musical.  Donna had an excellent sense of humour and a deep, contemplative nature which made her such an interesting, magnetic person. Gentle enough that you felt you could tell her anything and witty enough to pick you back up and make you laugh after a long session of listening.

She was a born again Christian and could always be found in her bible and at church on Sunday. She spent such a large portion of her life in prayer for others. She would often dedicate herself to fasting and prayer sessions as she would intercede on behalf of loved ones as they were going through difficult trials. Her whole family was always covered in her prayers of protection, especially her children.

Samantha, 34, and Adam, 28, were her pride and joy and she would tell anyone who would listen just the same. Never once would you hear anything except glowing praise if you asked Donna about her children. She took the role of mother so seriously. This was a sacred duty that she upheld with the utmost vigilance and love. So fierce was her devotion to her family that we still feel covered in its glow.

Donna loved one man for her entire life, Gary. The two met when they were just teenagers and they went through every phase of life together, good and bad. He is heartbroken to lose such an excellent partner.

The family would like to thank those working in Palliative Care at the Moncton Hospital for helping her and us in her last few days.

If you had the pleasure of knowing Donna, the family will be receiving friends and relatives at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road Riverview (506-869-2007) on Tuesday, February 18, from 7-9 pm. They would love to hear stories about her or see pictures as they remember her. A funeral service to celebrate Donna’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 19th at 2:00 pm. Donations may be made to the Parkside Baptist Church on Mountain Road or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cobbsfuneralhome.ca
