The death of Dalton “Doc” Wayne Francis, husband of Natasha (Mehlum) Francis, of Esgenoôpetitj, NB, occurred on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 68. Born in Miramichi, NB, he was the son of the late Edmond and Mary Lucy (Somerville) Francis.

Doc was an alcohol and drug counsellor; he worked with addicts in various places such as the Atlantic Institution and within local communities. Doc was a respected elder, Sundancer, he looked after sacred fires, smudging, Powwows, and helped with NA and AA programs, Doc was very involved within his community.

Besides his wife, Doc is survived by children: Cindy, Robyn Kidwell (MacKenzie), Victoria (Chance), Krissie, Harleigh, Kenneth, Mia; sister: Regina Francis of Listuguj, PQ; 6 grandchildren: as well as many nieces and nephews.
