Tigers stage late rally to beat Cardinals

3 runs in 7th to take 2-1 series lead

Game 3 of the MVBL Final was played at memorial Field on August 31st with the series tied 1-1.  The home team Cardinals looked poised to take a 2-1 lead they lead the visting Chatham Head Tigers 5-2 in the last inning.  The Tigers clawed back with two runs to make it a one run game with some help from the Cardinals who committed a costly error when a fly ball dropped into right field leading to two runs.

With two out and a man on third, catcher Jeff McCarthy hit a single to cash the tying run.

The 7th inning was highlighted by some controversial balls and strike calls by home plate umpire Brian Cummings.  One Tiger was ejected from the bench in the top of the 7th, and after Cardinal Kris Keating was called out on strikes with the bases loaded to end the 7th Cardinal Manager Alan Menzies was also ejected for complaining about the strike zone.

Tigers would score in the 9th to win the game courtesy of an RBI by Colton McKay. 

Matt Carroll pitched 6 innings for the Tigers but Ron Dickson got the win with 2 innings in relief.  Kris Keating pitched the final innings for the Cardinals and was saddled with the loss .

Game 4 goes Monday night at the Waldo Henderson Field in Chatham Head.
