The death of Joseph Stafford Paul common-in-law partner of Janie Dedam, occurred on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 66. Born in Newcastle, NB, he was the son of the late Willis Johnson and Mary (Metallic) Mitchell. In his younger years, Stafford was a lobster fisherman and worked in the woods.

Besides his common-in-law partner, Stafford is survived by his children: Lauraleen Dedam (MJ Lynch); Jim Dedam (Gail Leslie), Matterick Dedam (Alison Metallic) and Terrance Paul all of Esgenoôpetitj, NB; siblings: Pamela Johnson, Ceicilia Johnson, Tanya Johnson; Duane Johnson, Bobby Mitchell, Junior Johnson; Willis Jr. (Jerry) Richardson, Adam Joe, David Larry all of Esgenoôpetitj, NB and Steven Paul of Metepenagiag, NB; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Stafford is predeceased by siblings: John Paul Sr., Austin Paul, Elizabeth Young and Sophia Johnson. 

The family will receive visitors at his residence: 644 Bayview Drive, Esgenoôpetitj, NB, on Tuesday after 7 PM and again on Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Esgenoôpetitj, NB on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 10 AM.
