Next week marks National Volunteer Week, a time to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of volunteers in communities across the country. In honour of this occasion, one Miramichi volunteer has been recognized for their exceptional support over the years.

Shannex Enhanced Care, which operates Losier Hall and Bridgeview Hall nursing homes, has maintained a partnership with Max Aitken Academy since the schools' openings in October 2019 and June 2020. Over this period, hundreds of students have volunteered at the two facilities, engaging in activities such as arts and crafts, reading with residents, singing, visiting, and delivering Halloween treats.

Residents of Losier Hall and Bridgeview Hall look forward to these visits, forging meaningful connections with the students. These interactions foster trust and mutual respect, which are essential in helping to prevent ageism and promote intergenerational understanding.

A recent photo captures a special moment from yesterday morning, when students from the Max Aitken Academy’s Grade Two French Immersion class visited the residents. The students presented a Volunteer Certificate to the school on behalf of Shannex. All individuals in the photograph have given their consent for it to be published.
