The company that designed the multiplex made a presentation to City Council on July 29 to explain the concept of the family/universal change rooms for the aquatic centre, because people who were not familiar with the concept had expressed some concerns. Basically, everyone uses the same change room; they get changed into their swimsuits in private rooms with full-length locked doors, shower in their swimsuit either privately or in a bank of showers that are visible from the pool area, and then go swimming. There are also change rooms for families and for people who need assistance. The presenter explains that the concept has become the preferred design for many new aquatic-centre builds and promotes security through visibility.
