Jimmy Ross

  • Apr 18, 2025
Surrounded by the love of his family, at his residence, on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the age of 90, Mr. James “Jimmy” Eldon Basil Ross passed away.

He lived in Barryville.

Born on July 1, 1934, he was the son of the late Ernest Ross and the late Marie-Anne Poulin.
He is survived by his children: Robert (Sue), Sheila and Yvonne (Odéa); his grandchildren: Meghan, Rebeka (Derick), Bryanna (André-Philippe), Jonathan, Britney (Luc) and André-Philippe; his great-grandchildren: Felix, Osias, Malko, Peter, Oscar and Octave; his beloved partner, Maureen and her daughters: Debbie, Lisa and Tracy, as well as their families; two sisters: Loretta (late Holden) and Ann; one brother, Gerald (late Betty); the mother of his children, Noella Gautreau, as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Wilbert, Susan, Betty, Joseph, William, Peter, Emma, John, Cathy, Michael, Margaret Rose, Rose-Marie and Leona.

Jimmy lived a life full of adventure and heart. A beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, partner, brother, uncle, and friend, he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force and United Nations, explored the world, and returned home to pour his energy into his family and the community he cherished. In Barryville, he became a pillar—leading projects, building spaces for children to play, and always finding ways to bring people together. Whether climbing the Great Pyramid of Cheops at Giza, hiking Mount Kilimanjaro at 80, Mount Carleton at 86, or camping with his family, Jimmy brought playfulness and courage to everything he did.

He was a natural leader, a skilled storyteller, and a man who knew how to find joy in the simple things—from a roaring campfire to a bowl of ice cream. He lived with conviction, passion, and humour, leaving behind a legacy as wide and warm as the trails he walked and the stories he told. Those lucky enough to know him will carry his light forever.

A heartfelt thank you to the medical staff and family members who gave him such wonderful care and love in his final days.
