VELMA MARION WILSON
Velma (nee Bryenton) Wilson of Sunny Corner, N.B. passed away on June 16, 2024, at the age of 92. Velma was married to the love of her life, Charlie Wilson, who survives her. They were married for over 70 years. Their love, mutual support, and faith in God sustained them through life’s challenges.
Velma grew up in Bryenton, N.B., the daughter of Agnes (nee McAllister) and Everett, where the family had a farm, post office and general store.
Velma became a Registered Nurse following training at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She nursed for many years at the Miramichi Hospital. Working mostly night shifts, she also raised a family of four children. Velma loved being a nurse, whether in the hospital or to those with minor injuries or ailments who would come to her door.
Velma volunteered for several organizations, including Sunday School and CGIT at the St. Stephen’s United Church in Red Bank, and Big Brothers Big Sisters Miramichi.
She loved to cook and bake for others, whether hosting dinner parties or compiling care baskets. Velma enjoyed travelling and was always open to an adventure.
She is predeceased by her parents, half-brother Eddie Murphy, her brothers Newton (Helen) and Earl (Bonnie) Bryenton, and her daughter Lynn (Don). She is survived by her husband, her sister Hilda Rushbrook, son Gordie (Sharon), daughters Nancy (Tony) and Anne (Michael).
