On Monday August 7, 2023 brothers Aldéric and Léandre Thibodeau, 75 and 82, went missing. They were last seen at the wharf in Brantville, close to Neguac, around 1 pm and were on their way to fish mackerel.
A search was called when they had not returned but the search is now a recovery mission after the men’s 16 foot red dory was found capsized and life jackets and clothing identified as belonging to one of them men was also found. Authorities do not believe the men, both experienced fishermen, could survive in the waters longer than 16 hours while not wearing life jackets or survival suits. Nine vessels searched for the men for more than 48 hours in an area up to 2000 square kilometers.
