Margaret Jean (Foote) Barker, passed away peacefully at Percy's Place Hospice, on May 31, 2024, at the age of 75.
Born on January 19, 1949, in Kentville, NS, she attended school in Woodville, NS, and later at West Kings District School. She went to Acadia University and obtained a Secretarial Science Diploma in 1968. Additionally, she received a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1969 and a Bachelor of Education degree in 1971.
In 1971, Margaret and her husband, David, started teaching careers on Grand Manan Island at Grand Manan High School. After a a year on Grand Manan, Margaret and family moved to Newcastle where they taught at Miramichi Valley High until her retirement in 2004.
Margaret became the Head of the Business Education Department in 1989 and later became the Head of the Technical Vocation Department when it was formed. She was instrumental in introducing Data Processing, Computer Science and other computer-related courses into the MVHS curriculum. Margaret also served many years as the Staff Advisor (Financial) to the Student Council.
Margaret had a number of interests. First and foremost, she was devoted to her family and enjoyed her children and, later, grandchildren. She loved to play Bridge and belonged to a couple of Bridge groups. She was a true competitor.
She loved to travel, especially to warm destinations. She was especially fond of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. She enjoyed warmth, culture, and food of the Island.
Margaret also loved cats, so there was always a cat or two in the household.
