Kathleen Rose (Kathy) Johnston

January 10, 1950 – September 25, 2026

Surrounded by love, Kathleen Rose (Kathy) Johnston passed peacefully at Percy’s Place on September 25, 2025.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years, Alonzo Leroy (Lonnie) Johnston, her mother and father. She is survived by her sons Matthew of Exmoor and Aaron (Hannah) of Doaktown; her cherished granddaughters Sydney and Lexie, who brought endless joy to her life; her sister Michaeleen McCarthy (Tim); her stepsons Walter (Margo) of Strathadam, and Andrew (Colleen) of Halifax, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A dedicated educator, Kathy taught for 35 years at North and South Esk Elementary School. She was deeply loved and respected by the generations of students whose lives she touched with patience, wisdom, and care.

A devout Catholic, Kathy was a faithful member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Red Bank, where she contributed wholeheartedly to her parish community.

Kathy’s greatest joy was her family. She adored being an active part of her granddaughters’ lives, cheering them on in every milestone and adventure. Her love extended to the dogs who shared her home and heart over the years — Pola, Midas, Dougall, Jasper, and Ramsey.

She will be fondly remembered for her unwavering love of family, her quick wit, her generous spirit, her deep faith, and her world-famous Hello Dolly squares and Chex Mix which were staples at gatherings both big and small.

The family is deeply grateful for the impeccable and loving care Kathy received from all the staff and volunteers at Percy’s Place. Knowing she spent her final weeks in such a warm and compassionate environment brings great comfort to all who loved her.

The family will receive visitors at Jardine Funeral Home, 597 Old King George Highway, Miramichi, on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 4-8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 11 AM with Father Peter Igwe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathy’s memory may be made to Percy’s Place, the Miramichi SPCA or a charity of your choice. Messages of condolence can be sent through the funeral home website: www.miramichifunerals.ca
