The death of James “Jimmy” Lawlor, of Cassilis, NB, occurred on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Percy’s Place, at the age of 84. Born in Red Bank, NB, he was the son of the late James and Marcella (Burns) Lawlor.
As a well-known singer and musician in the area, Jimmy began performing at a young age at St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church in Red Bank, New Brunswick. He continued to sing at St. Thomas up until Christmas 2024. He joined his first band at 14 years old and never looked back. He continued to play music for the next seven decades, performing at innumerable shows and gigs. Gifted with a tremendous voice and with talents in playing the guitar and piano, Jimmy played for audiences big and small alike. He was a proud member of the Miramichi Sanatoria Club. He performed at a variety of local events over the years including Irish Festival, Folk Song Festival and Scottish Festival. Jimmy sang at Legions, Lion’s Clubs, Knight’s of Columbus halls and any number of community centres, never saying no to a fundraiser or benefit. A proud inductee of the New Brunswick Country Music Hall of Fame in 1996, he also received the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022.
Jimmy was also a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Local 73.
Jimmy is survived by daughter: Jennifer Lawlor of Miramichi, NB; sons: Jimmy (Wendy) of Red Bank, NB, Patrick (Shirley) of South Esk, NB, Michael of Riverview, NB, Shawn (Cheryl) of Halifax, NS; grandchildren: Brittany, Matthew, Chelsea, Jimmy, Ryan, Russell, Reid, Ronan, Carden; great grandchildren: Emersyn, Nayvie, Jorgie, Beau, Sage, Wyatt, Jamie; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he is predeceased by siblings: Francis, Mary Ann, Theresa, Carmel, Corinne, Edward, Joseph, Aloysius; infant brothers: James Edward, John.
The family will receive visitors at Jardine Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 4-7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 11 o’clock with Fr. Peter Igwe officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
