It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Joseph O’Neill on March 31, 2026 at the George Dumont Hospital at the age of 79 following a brief battle with cancer.

Jim was a long time resident of Miramichi, New Brunswick. He is survived by his brother Tom of Mississauga ON and sister Susan of Shediac, NB and their families.

Jim attended the Canadian Coast Guard College in Sydney, NS and was a graduate of the University of New Brunswick. He worked for a number of years with the federal public service before going into private business.

Most recently he worked free lance as a court reporter with Miramichi Online. 

Jim was known for his sense of humour and adventure, generosity and love of black rum.

He spent countless hours on the Miramichi River, boating, windsurfing and scuba diving. He was happy to have been able to spend his last years living on the banks of the river he loved so much.

At Jim’s request there will be no funeral or visitation, but there will be a celebration of life planned at a later date.
