Gary Frederick Curtis

  • Dec 10, 2025

The death of Gary Frederick Curtis, husband of Penny (Mountain) Curtis occurred peacefully on Monday, December 8, 2025 at his home. He was born on January 24, 1945, in Keenans to John and Brycie (Coughlan) Curtis.

Gary is survived by his wife and two daughters, Jackie Curtis (Gary Richard, deceased) and Charlotte Curtis and grandson, Daniel Richard. He is also survived by sister, Daphne Curtis of Fredericton and brothers, Herb Curtis (late Iris and late Helen) and Wayne Curtis of Fredericton and Winston Curtis (Loretta) of Keenans as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gary was a guide, fly tyer and outfitter. He owned a service station at one time and retired from the Blackville mill. He was a 17-year member of the Blackville volunteer fire department.

One of Gary’s great loves was the piano. He “played by ear” from a very early age. He played at schools, parties, concerts, weddings, dances and special community events from Blackville to Caraquet and he played daily for his own enjoyment.

Although he played less after his stroke in 2018, he continued to play just using his right hand. He, in fact, played on Saturday, December 6 and seemed to enjoy playing some Christmas carols and John Denver tunes.

Gary was artistic. Prior to Charlotte’s birth, he painted scenes and portraits. A portrait of Jackie hangs in his living room. Later in life, he spent many hours tying flies.

The family would like to thank the many Extramural nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists for their very good care over the last seven years. Also, they would like to thank the care workers from Parkers Home Care for their patient, compassionate care. Gary was treated like a well loved grandparent.
