It is with great sadness that the family of Carolyn (Matchett) Young, of Miramichi, NB, announce her passing on Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024 at Percy’s Place at the age of 79.
Born in Sillikers, NB, on July 20th, 1945, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Henrietta Matchett, and granddaughter of the late Maggie and David Matchett. She was a homemaker who will be remembered for her love of her family and friends. Sheloved to travel and was able to take many vacations throughout her life, including countless cruises, bus trips to Nashville and shopping trips to Bangor. She also cherished her many years as a snowbird in South Padres, Texas. Mom and dad spent many years camping at Manderson’s Campground with their wonderful friends. Mom enjoyed doing crafts, and over the years, spent many hours knitting, doing cross stitch and creating beautiful handmade quilts. She also loved playing cards and going out to eat at restaurants with her friends. Mom spent manyyears as a member of the Newcastle Lions Club, serving as a Lioness. She also spent numerous years volunteering in the gift shop at Miramichi Regional Hospital.
She is survived by two daughters: Colleen Underhill (Terry) and Joanne of Miramichi, NB; one son: Stephen (Amy) of South Esk; grandchildren Michael and Rachel Underhill; 3 sisters: Ann Flundra (Steve), Sheila Tallon, Trudy Matchett (Ed); 2 brothers:Terry (Irene) and Roland; 2 sisters-in-law: Elsie Young and Kathleen Godin; 1 brother-in-law: Leo Burns; and many nieces, nephews and beloved cousins.
Besides her husband, mother and grandparents, Carolyn is predeceased by 4 brothers: Allan, Layton, Robert, infant brother Derrick; and 1 sister: Susan MacKenzie.
