Melina “Mina” Bertin of Turner Valley, AB, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the age of 93 years.
Mina was born in Patterson, NB, on July 7, 1932, and she moved to Turner Valley, AB, in 2014 to be closer to her family.
Although she only had a Grade four education, Mina taught herself how to read and write, becoming well-educated so she could care for her family in the best way possible.
Her first job, at the age of fourteen, was working as a cleaner at the convent. She later became a cook at various restaurants throughout Newcastle, NB.
Mina married Joseph Benoit Bertin on December 26, 1950. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League, enjoyed playing cards, bowling, listening to music—especially Hank Snow—and was often heard singing around the house.
She is survived by her three daughters, Lucie Bertin, Aline (Nick) Tossmann, and Lee Anne (Al) McGraw; her sister, Elizabeth (Don) Renaud, two grandsons, two granddaughters, two great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mina was predeceased by her husband Joseph, son Louis, parents, Adelard and Esther Doiron; five brothers, and five sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 2 o'clock with Fr. Cornelius Ngurukwem officiating.
