Miramichi Supports Ukraine group shares success with Council

A local group called Miramichi Supports Ukraine made a presentation to City Council on November 15th. Representing the group was Adam Hayward and Jerry Iwanus.
The group formed to help support any Ukrainian people who settled in Miramichi after being displaced by the conflict there. They expected 7 or 8 families, but there are now 16 families here. Hayward reported that some of them found work immediately and a large number are living independently but some still live with host families. The financial support from the community has also been overwhelming.
Stories of how Miramichi connects with the Ukrainian refugees
A Ukrainian man who moved to Dieppe and who is a professional videographer made a video about the Miramichi region which has created more interest among his Ukrainian contacts.
One student who came to Miramichi and who was living in a camp supplied by a Miramichier was looking for an accordion, and the group posted the request on Facebook, and the same day there were 4 accordions at his resident, bringing organizers to tears.
