Shirley Mary Evelyn (Morehouse) Estey, of Miramichi, peacefully passed into the Presence of her Lord and Saviour surrounded by her family at Percy's Place, on Saturday 12:41am, August 31, 2024, at the age of 90.
Born in Upper Blackville, she was the daughter of the late Hinson and Marion Alice (Bell) Morehouse. In her youth , Shirley went to a one room classroom gr. 1-8 and Blackville HS gr.9-10. She began playing in church at age 15. On the farm each summer, she drove a horse-drawn rake and did many chores to help her father. She graduated in 1953 from UBBTS and in 1959 from Providence-Barrington Bible College with a degree in music, and taught piano lessons for many years. She also directed numerous church Easter and Christmas programs and sang in numerous choirs. She trained to be a missionary in France with husband Roger, but had to defer this ministry when Roger became briefly ill. She worked with autistic children in Florenceville. In addition to playing organ and piano in their church ministries around the Maritimes, she ran Eager Beavers, Junior Astronauts, and summer DVBS programs. One of her favorite instruments was her Autoharp. She played in many places and for many events and funerals for over 70 years.
She always looked forward to the time when she would stand before The Lord Jesus and see Him on His Throne beside The Father God. Though we know she is now with her Lord in glory, she will be greatly missed by her husband Roger Estey of Miramichi; her brother Dale Morehouse of Fredericton; three sons Allen (Sherry) of Back Bay, Stephen (Nancy) of Bradley, ME, and Jonathan (Deanna) of Miramichi; sister-in-law Arlene Beckwith of Presque Isle, ME; eight grandchildren Cheryl Rees (Joel), Daniel Estey, Jennifer Webb (Luke), Aleicia Soards (Brandon), Jacklyn Estey, Nathan Estey, Katelyn French (Lucas), and Brayden Estey; six great grandchildren Sophie Rees, Ryan Rees, Lilly Baker, Sebastian Webb, Lucille Webb, and Elliot Estey; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters-in-law Donna Morehouse, Donna McKenney, Rena Schultz, and Phyllis Perdue.
