Police warn or persistent phone scam

Callers claim to be relative needing money

The Miramichi Police Force would like to alert the public to a recent surge in fraudulent activity within our community.

Over the past month, we have received numerous reports of residents being targeted by phone scams involving callers impersonating family members, typically grandchildren. These scammers claim that the loved one is in legal trouble and urgently needs money to avoid arrest. Unfortunately, some victims have fallen prey to these scams, only realizing after the fact that they were defrauded.

We urge the public to remain vigilant with phone calls and online interactions. Always verify the authenticity of such claims before taking any action.
