It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick J Henry at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on August 26th 2023 at the age of 84. 

Pat was born January 19th 1939 in Chatham Head, New Brunswick to Edmay and Anthony Henry, the ninth of ten children. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Pat dearly loved the community of Chatham Head and its people. Pat spent several years volunteering with Meals on Wheels and dearly loved spending time and building relationships with those in need. He was a frequent and welcome visitor in nursing homes to those he had previously served. 

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Ann Redmond (Henry), daughter Karla Anderson (Doug), grandchildren Patrick Anderson and Amy Anderson (Michael Ryan) and beloved great grandson Myles Ryan. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Leo (Ruby), Fred (Leona), Agnas (Fred Cormier), Amedee, Eric (Lauza), Lorraine (Greg Swain), Tony (Yvonne), Freda (Des Trainor) and infant brother Ivan. He leaves behind numerous and cherished nieces and nephews.

Pat was an accomplished athlete having played baseball, hockey and golf. He was a member of the Chatham Head Tigers baseball team that was admitted into the Miramichi Sports Wall of Fame and the Baseball NB Hall of Fame. He continued his love of sport throughout his time in the Canadian Armed Forces. He was a veteran, having served 26 years in the military. Serving as a peacekeeper in the Congo during the Congo uprising in the 1960s and six terms of isolated postings at Alert on Ellsmere Island in the North West Territories during the Cold War period. He was a charter member of the Peacekeepers Miramichi Chapter and a long time member of the Miramichi Golf and Country Club. 

By Pats request, his body has been donated to the Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine Human Body Donation Program.

Pat will always be remembered for his generous spirit and contagious smile. 

A memorial service will be held at St.Michael’s Basilica on Thursday August 31, 2023 at 11:00 am

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Miramichi Community Food Bank, The Salvation Army or the IWK foundation would be appreciated by the family.
