35 hectares of land was engulfed in flames yesterday during wildfire in the Oldfield area.
The Miramichi Fire Department responded at around 3 pm to join DNR fire fighters, water bombers and bulldozers take control of the fire. No structures were affected and Miramichi Online spoke with a resident in the area who said the fire was a long way away and at the time did not feel threatened by it. Due to provincial wildfires and the elevated Forest Fire Index, all outdoor burning is strictly prohibited within the City of Miramichi until further notice.
Conditions are extremely dry, and even small sparks can lead to fast-moving wildfires that threaten homes, wildlife, and public safety.
