Obituary for Francis Joseph Duplessis

DUPLESSIS, Francis Joseph - Orangeville, Ontario and Baie-Ste-Anne, NB

Francis Joseph Duplessis died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 21st, 2021, at his home in Orangeville, Ontario. He was 79 years of age. Francis, a former resident of Baie-Ste-Anne, was the son of the late Octave and Marie Duplessis. He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Lyla (Walsh) Duplessis of Orangeville, his son, Scott Duplessis of Vancouver, daughter, Wendy (Joe) Arteaga of Aurora, Ontario and his cherished grandchildren, Amanda and Joshua Arteaga. He also leaves to mourn his four sisters, Zelia (late Jim) McIntyre, Carmel (late Adolphe) Savoie, Aline (Therence) Manuel and Pat (Edmond) Manuel, his three brothers, Stanley, Ronald (Adeline) and Paul (Linda), as well as his mother-in-law, Mary Walsh, all of Baie-Ste-Anne. He will also be missed by his many extended relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Francis was predeceased by his sister Rita (late Laureat) Schofield.

Although Francis spent virtually all of his working life in Ontario, he was a true rural Maritimer at heart. Following retirement, he cherished spending his summers in his childhood community of Baie-Ste-Anne. Above all else, Francis was a family man, - his wife, kids and grandkids were his life and meant the world to him. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral Mass and burial will be held in Baie-Ste-Anne. However, due to current Covid-19 restrictions, it is being postponed until later in the summer, at a time and date to be announced. For those who wish, memorial donations to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto, would be appreciated by the family.

Private family arrangements have been entrusted to the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre of Orangeville and the Adams Funeral Home of Miramichi. A tree will be planted in memory of Francis in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville.

Né à Baie Ste-Anne au NB, il était le fils de feu d’Octave et Marie Duplessis. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse Lyla (Walsh) Duplessis d’Orangeville, son fils, Scott Duplessis de Vancouver, sa fille, Wendy (Joe) Arteaga d’Aurora, Ontario et ses chers petits-enfants, Amanda et Joshua Arteaga. Il laisse aussi dans le deuil 4 soeurs, Zelia (feu Jim) McIntyre, Carmel (feu Adolphe) Savoie, Aline (Therence) Manuel et Pat (Edmond) Manuel, ses trois frères, Stanley, Ronald (Adeline) et Paul (Linda), ainsi que sa belle-mère, Mary Walsh, tous de Baie-Ste-Anne. Il sera également manqué par sa famille étendu et ses amis. De plus que ses parents, sa soeur Rita (feu Laureat) Schofield l’a précédée dans la tombe.

Bien que Francis a pratiquement passé sa vie adulte en Ontario, il était un vrai “Maritimer” à coeur. Suivant sa retraite, il aimait passer ses étés dans sa communauté d’enfance, Baie-Ste-Anne. Plus que tout, Francis était un homme de famille - son épouse, ses enfants et petits-enfants étaient sa joie de vivre. Il sera grandement manqué.

La messe des funérailles et l’enterrement auront lieu à Baie-Ste-Anne. Cependant, dû à la situation courante de Covid-19, ils seront remis à une date et un temp à être déterminés plus tard cet été. En guise de sympathie, un don au Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto, serait apprécié par la famille.

Des arrangements privés pour la famille ont été confiés à Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre of Orangeville et Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi. Un arbre sera planté en mémoire de Francis dans Dods & McNair Memorial Forest Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville.
