  • Dec 17, 2022

The Miramichi Northman played the Bouctouche Dodge Ram JC’s last night at the Civic Centre in Miramichi. Bouctouche won 5-2 by making the most of their scoring chances.

The shots on goal were even at 16 each in the first period that ended 4-0 for Bouctouche, and chased Miramichi netminder Andrew Lanteigne from the game. Lanteigne was solid but a deflection and a screen shot were two of the goals that beat him.  A fight near the end of the first period put the Miramichi team in a hole as Nick Foran took a 5 minute major and as the guy he chose to fight did not offer up any resistance.  Bouctouche scored on the powerplay near the end f the period to make it 4-0.

Tyler McKay took over in the net for Miramichi and was greeted with a shot to the mask followed by a beautiful three way passing play on a power play to make the game 5-0. Moments later Kennedy Gallant scored a short-handed goal, to get Miramichi on the board, and then Jeff Wilson made it 5-2 and Miramichi had some life.

Before the end of the second Andre Doucet in a sportsman-like tussle which appeared to spark the team. With only seconds left Miramichi hit the post on a good scoring chance by Avery Brennan which could have cut the lead to 2 going into the final intermission.

Kennedy Gallant added a second goal in the third to cut the lead to 5-3 with 12 minutes remaining, but Miramichi didn;t have too many good scoring chances after that. Captain Kris Keating delivered a couple of heavy hits in the final frame, but Bouctouche was solid down the stretch. Full marks go to Bouctouche goalie Alex Collette who made it look easy most of the night.  Shots were 36-31 in favour of Miramichi.

The 50/50 was $4100 and was won by Alex Savoie of Baie Ste-Anne.
