Organization plans museum to honour NB's aviation history in two world wars, and have training centre for cadets.
The New Brunswick Aviation Museum has launched a fundraising campaign with a goal of finding a permanent home in Miramichi. The organization recently had a ceremony to commemorate the fundraising effort and to announce they will be utilizing a hangar at the Miramichi Airport for the next year while they work toward a permanent location. Beaverbrook Foundation donated $100,000 toward the effort that will enable the organization to fund the rental of the hangar as well as conduct a feasibility study. The group will begin leasing the hangar on July 1st.
In 2014 the group received charitable organization status from the CRA, and in 2021 the Miramichi Airport donated land to the organization where it plans to build a permanent home for its exhibits. See the plans below.
The organization has been successful in building an impressive list of Honorary Co-Chairs and Honorary Patrons including Dr. Roberta Bondar (astronaut), Frank McKenna, and the Tourism Industry Association of NB. Details about how to donate and who is involved can be seen on their website at nbaviationmuseum.com
The goal of the museum is to honour New Brunswick’s aviation heroes from two world wars, with a vision to become the leading aerospace museum in Atlantic Canada by emphasizing civil and military aviation history of the province. A key part of the plan to make the museum a success is to also make it a place where air cadets can train, calling it the Golden Hawk Aerospace Academy.
