Janice Evelyn (Whitney) Shannon, wife of Ronald Shannon, of South Esk, NB, was surrounded by loved ones as she passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Moncton City Hospital at the age of 67. Born in Miramichi, NB, she was the daughter of the late Sterling and Ruby (Dunnett) Whitney.

Janice loved her family deeply. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter: Whitney Shannon of Miramichi, NB; sons: Matthew Shannon (Stephanie) of Miramichi, NB, Nathan Shannon (Catherine) of Riviere de Loup, PQ; sister: Brenda Whitney of Whitney, NB; her grandchildren: Madisson, Callum, Aiden, Sofia and Asher; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her sister: Darlene Whitney.

Janice was a pillar of Atlantic Institution where she worked for 37 years. Throughout her career she had many roles, her last 20 being in the Health Services department where she was so loved by “her girls”. She was actively involved in the employee assistance program, her office door was always open to all, she was a sense of home and security, Janice had time for everyone. She welcomed people with open arms, making them feel instantly comfortable in an environment that wasn’t always welcoming. She was front and center to help those in need and the first one to show up with a pan of hello dolly squares.

In her spare time, Janice loved scrapbooking with friends. Her “Stampin Up” weekends each spring and fall, with friends new and old and the “Scrappin’ Saturday’s” were enjoyable times for her. She was also an active member of ...
