On an important holiday for Filipinos—the anniversary of their country's independence—a flag was raised in Queen Elizabeth Park, and members of their community were presented with a commemorative coin. Mayor Lordon made the following remarks on social media:
This morning, I joined members of Miramichi’s Filipino community to celebrate the national holiday of their native country and to honor their presence and contributions here in Miramichi!
Deputy Mayor Paddy Quinn and I also presented the executive of the Miramichi Filipino Association with one of the City’s 30th Anniversary coins to mark their positive impact on the local community and economy.
Thank you for organizing the event, sharing your culture with all of us, and helping to make Miramichi such a vibrant and diverse place to live!
