Elizabeth (Betty) Joan Maher (Searle) of Miramichi, passed away peacefully at Bridgeview Hall on September 8, 2024, at the age of 83. 

Born in Miramichi on September 16, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Marion Trevors (Harris). Elizabeth or Betty, as she was fondly referred to by many, was a homemaker and loving mother, who returned to work once her children were grown, eventually working for Canada Post until her retirement in 2006. 

Betty lived a rich life with many adventures and twists of life. She loved being busy at work and home, and especially loved her walks. She was ever present in the lives of her children and their biggest cheerleader. She was so proud of her grandchildren and great grand children, whom she talked about constantly. Love is patient, love is kind…, the beginning of that famous bible verse, aptly sums up the essence of how Betty cared for her family, and words which we felt so much more deeply, as we joined her in her long journey with Alzheimer’s Disease. 

Betty will be greatly missed by her daughter Colleen (Yvon) Breau of Miramichi; her son John (Linda) Maher of Fredericton; her two sisters Marion (Hugo) Schonberg of Ottawa, Ont; Carol (Frank) Kane of Miramichi; her brother Harry (Annelie) Searle of Aylmer, QC; her grand children Cara (John) Breau of Saint John; Matthew Breau of Miramichi; Daniel Maher of Fredericton; Joshua Maher of Fredericton and her two great grandchildren, Abby and Lana Williams of Saint John, along with several nieces and nephews.
