Donald Joseph Savoie
September 1, 1956 – April 9, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Joseph Savoie, of Renous, on April 9, 2024 following a brief, but fearless battle with multiple Glioblastoma brain tumours.
Born in Chatham to the late Joseph Savoie and Alice (Breau) Savoie of Miramichi, he passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Percy’s Place at the age of 67.
He was a proud school bus driver for Anglophone North School District, where he worked until the onset of his illness. When not driving his school bus, he could be found playing music with friends and family, tending to his property in Renous, driving his antique cars, or giving a friend a helping hand.
Donald is survived by his loving wife for more than 40 years, Mary Girouard Savoie, of Renous; children Ron Girouard (Melanie) of Moncton, Wanda Andrews (Chris) of Mississauga, ON, and Joey (Andrea) of MacDougall Settlement; brothers Simon (Lisette) of Lameque, Eddie (Kathy) of Ajax, ON, and Jim (Gabriel) of Toronto, ON; sister Simone Savoie Mullin (Late Tom) of Miramichi; grandchildren Tommy, Ana, Mikey and Benjamin; and great grandchildren Ellie, River, Livvy and Seb.
He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Savoie, and grandson, Christian Gray.
As per Don’s request, there will be no visitation. At a later date, there will be a church service at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church followed by a burial in the church cemetery in Nelson.
Our family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for Dr. Gerard Losier and all of the staff and volunteers of Percy’s Place for their endless professionalism, compassion and exceptional care that was given to Don and our family in his final days. We find peace and comfort in knowing that he was given “the very best” care before being called Home to be with the Lord.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Percy’s Place would be greatly appreciated by our family.
