(RIVER GLADE, NB – June 5th, 2021) – Travis Conroy (Miramichi, NB) scored his first career Atlantic Modified Tour victory on Saturday by winning the Season Opener at Petty International Raceway. Conroy, who also won the qualifying heat race, was challenged throughout the race by reigning Series champion Yves McCray (Neguac, NB) and while McCray shadowed Conroy during the 40-lap feature, he could not get by the Miramichi teenager for the win when the laps ran out. Conroy and McCray were joined on the podium by former River Glade International Sportsman winner Zean Dutcher (Miramichi, NB). Braxton Stafford (Blackville, NB) and Doug Matchett (Miramichi, NB) completed the top five in the first race of the 2021 season for the New Brunswick based touring series.

Conroy’s first career feature victory with the Series comes in his 19th start with the Series and eighth at the River Glade, New Brunswick oval in his Modified entry. Conroy was the 2019 Rookie of the Year on the Atlantic Modified Tour. For McCray, it is the second straight year where he has finished runner-up in the Season Opener.

The Atlantic Modified Tour Season Opener featured three cautions and took 25 minutes to complete. The first caution of the event happened on the opening lap when a three wide squeeze ended with multi-time Series champion Joe Hoyt (Waasis, NB) on the hook before the first lap was completed. Fans who want to relive the action can do so with Tim’s Corner Motorsports TV and their Video On Demand coverage of the race at www.timscorner.tv beginning on Sunday.

Conroy thanks sponsors (Facebook)

Well we got the #7 modified to victory lane today in petty!! It was a hard fought battle between us and the 58 of Yves McCray

I wanna take a minute to recognize the people that made this possible for our team.

First off James Matchett. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be at the track. As well as my crew members.
