Cards and Tigers in action this week

Cards oust Tracadie, while Tigers lose to Dalhousie

The Miramichi Valley Baseball League is underway and the Chatham Head Tigers and Newcastle Cardinals were in action this week.

The Tigers took on Dalhousie at the Waldo Henderson field in Chatham Head on Tuesday night.  Despite 11 strike outs in 7 innings, the Dalhousie squad manufactured just enough runs to win the match 3-2.

With two outs in the top of the first and runners at 1st and 3rd, the team executed a gutsy double steal that cashed the first run of the game.  After that, Tigers pitcher Ronnie Dickson only gave up two hits over the next 5 innings.

The Tigers scored twice in the fourth to take the lead as Ryan Barry and Brian Dunn both scored after taking walks.

But errors hurt Dickson's good performance in the 6th and Dalhousie scored twice to regain the lead.  The Tigers had the bases loaded in the 7th, poised for a walk off win, but popped up in the infield with their last two at bats.

Tigers got 5 hits from the batters 1 through 4, but no production at all from the rest of the line-up.  Dickson finished with 11 strike-outs, 2 walks, and gave up only one earned run.

The Cardinals beat Tracadie on Wednesday night 10-0.  Tracadie pitchers had a hard time finding the plate, and eventually the Cards bats got going and drove in 10 runs on 4 hits combined with 6 walks.  Andrew Carter got the win for the Cards giving up 3 hits and 1 walk over 5 innings.
