Marie ‘Alvina’ (Duplessis) MacDonald passed away at Shannex-Bridgeview, Miramichi, NB, on November 4, 2024 at the age of 89.
Born in Eel River Bridge, New Brunswick on June 10, 1935, she was the daughter of Joseph J Duplessis and Emily (Mazerolle) Duplessis.
Alvina was the youngest of seventeen children and the last surviving member of her family. Alvina is survived by two sons: Vincent MacDonald (Paula) of New Maryland, NB and Daryl MacDonald (Tracy) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren: Kristina, Melissa, David, Jeffrey, Shelby and Kayla. Great-grandchildren Xavier, Olivier, Gavin, Keisha, Grayson and Madelyn .
Alvina was predeceased by her husband Norman MacDonald, son Kevin MacDonald (Dorothy) and daughter Shelley Leblanc (Frank), Brothers: Andrew-Alison, Leo, Alexandre, Andre, Arthur, Antoine, Ferdinand, Philias, and Mathias, Sisters: Leona, Valina, Marie Ann, Philomene, Adela, Alphonsine, and Clementine.
Mom moved to Chatham at a very young age to look after children of working parents. This is when she met Dad, got married and settled in Glenwood, NB.
When her kids grew older she looked after young kids again for a while until she worked in Housekeeping at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital in Chatham. Later on she worked for Laundry Services and then Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home in the Sewing Room.
Mom’s hobbies included bowling, crafts, knitting mitts and socks and making quilts for family members....
