In Loving Memory of Alice Doreen (Drillen) Vanderbeck
The death of Alice Doreen (Drillen) Vanderbeck, wife of Burton Vanderbeck of Losier Hall, Miramichi, NB, and formerly of Millerton, NB, occurred on the morning of Sunday, February 2, 2025, at her late residence at the age of 84. Born in Lower Derby, NB, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Sherrard) Drillen. Alice and Burton were married for 65 wonderful years.
Alice was a cherished member of Grace Presbyterian Church. In her younger years, she worked as an operator at NB Tel before dedicating her life to raising her children. She was also a member of the Derby Parish Senior Citizens.
Alice had a deep love for painting, music, and crafting stuffed toys. She found joy in gardening and spent many peaceful hours at home assembling puzzles. She also loved playing board games and cards with her children, creating cherished family memories. After her children left home to raise their own families, every evening, she and her husband spent many hours keeping each other company playing cards.
One of Alice's proudest achievements was completing her education and making the Dean's List in 1981.
Besides her husband, Alice is survived by her children: Peggy Coughlan (Steven) of Gray Rapids, NB; Leslie Vanderbeck (Kathy) of Quispamsis, NB; James (Sheryl) of Millerton, NB; Scott Vanderbeck (Ciara) of Rothesay, NB; sister: Irene Clouston (late Oman); grandchildren: Cassidy, Nicole, Timothy, Grant, Randi Benjamin, Sarah, and Jason; great-granddaughter: Lyndi, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Alice is predeceased by siblings: Alfred Drillen, Sterling Drillen, Norman Drillen, and Wilton Clouston, as well as infant grandson: Andrew.
At Alice’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Burial will take place in the Ferguson Presbyterian Cemetery at a later date.
