On June 11, I had the most wonderful opportunity to present the winner of The ROOF Project their brand new roof.
The ROOF project began as a way for Danny and Paula Matchett of Danny’s Improvements to give back to families on the Miramichi. With their belief that ‘the Sky's the Limit if you have a roof over your head,’ the Matchett’s entered their second year with The Roof Project. Selection is made, not just on financial need, but on community involvement and self-sacrifice.
Edna Carter is this year’s recipient.
With the colorfully wrapped present containing the certificates in hand, I walked to the patio of Edna Carter’s on Murphy Street to reveal to her that she was the winner of this year’s ROOF project. Unbeknownst to her, her worries of a new roof were going to be over with the unwrapping of the present I placed in front of her.
Edna Carter is the epitome of self-sacrifice. She gives of herself to her son Jantzen and her community. She can be seen around Miramichi with a smile and a wave and her mere presence warms the heart.
With tears, I walked away from this presentation very humbled: humbled that we were able to provide Edna with a new roof and humbled to be involved in something as wonderful as the ROOF project.
Hats off to Danny and Paula Matchett for realizing their dream, and applause to the partners, CHM Management, MacCallum Building Supplies and Roy Brothers Construction for helping them in that journey.
