The Cross Country Ski Club in Nelson is getting a new building, new biathlon range, and improvements to its trails.  At a presentation yesterday, the Rotary Club of Chatham donated $150,000 toward the project. The Rotary Club raises money at events throughout the year, including a radio bingo, and have donated large amounts to several community initiatives.  Included in the photo are (Back Row L-R) Alexandre Comeau, Lauren Martin, Paula Septon (ski club member), Valerie Bowes, Chris Kidney, Elizabeth Cooper, and (front row L-R)  Julie Martin, Laken McCarthy, Lalla MacFarlane, Suzanne Clancy.  Photo contributed by Brian Richard.

Also helping in improvements is the City of Miramichi as it budgeted $50,000 in the 2018 budget to fix the trail lighting that was damaged in last year’s ice storm.

There is also a provincial-federal contribution of $297,000 and $360,000 respectively.

The club is in bad need of new building, and improvements to trails will make them easier to groom.  An improved facility will encourage healthy lifestyles, community engagement and generate economic activity with added events and a more attractive facility for tourists.
