If the weather cooperates, stock car racing will return to Miramichi this weekend. On June 9th the first of 5 events will be held at the refurbished Miramichi Speedway on Williston Road. Jason Carnahan is one of the partners involved in bringing racing back to Miramichi. "The weather has really been hampering our efforts to get all the work done we need to do so we can have our races here on Saturday. But we'll have it ready." Carnahan is originally from Millerton, and a lifelong racing enthusiast. The total overhaul of the speedway includes track cleaning and renovations to the tower.
Saturday's events include Atlantic Open Wheel Modified racing, Street Stock, 4 cylinder, and a demolition derby that will have a "Dash for Cash", a burn out competition, a back up race, and a figure 8 race on the only track left in the Maritimes with the figure 8 infield. Up to $3000 in purse money is up for grabs this weekend.
The pits open for racers at noon, and the racing begins at 7pm. No pre-registration is required for racers, so tell your wife your going for a loaf of bread and head on down to the track with 4 cylinder Neon and buckle up. It looks like it is going to be a great family event. Admission prices are: General admission $13.00 Age 11 - 17 $7.00 . 10 years and under are FREE.
The Miramichi Timberwolves will be operating the licensed section of the grandstand, and there will be a family section and a canteen as well as ear plugs for sale at the concession stand. As well, people are permitted to bring a cooler, but it is limited to a 12 inch x 12 inch sift-sided cooler.
If the weather does not cooperate, MO))) will post the cancellation and revised schedule.
