RCMP investigate drownings in Gray Rapids

The Northeast District RCMP are investigating two deaths after a raft overturned in the Miramichi River in Gray Rapids, N.B. On July 3, 2018, shortly after 4:10 p.m., police responded to a report of eight people being in a raft that overturned.

On July 3, 2018, shortly after 4:10 p.m., police responded to a report of eight people being in a raft that overturned. Six made it to shore on their own while a 29-year-old woman from White Rapids, N.B., was pulled from the water and given CPR. She was transported to hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The cause of death has been confirmed to be a drowning.

The body of a 55-year-old man from White Rapids, N.B., was located in the water a short time later. An autopsy will be conducted to confirm the exact cause of death.

The investigation is continuing.
