At 9:20 tonight fire crews were called to a home fire in Chatham. Smoke billowed out of a duplex and residents and neighbours stood by as fireman worked to be sure fire was extinguished.
Phalen Street and Warren Avenue were blocked off to restrict traffic on Stewart Street, a dead end street south of Phalen and west of Warren Avenue. There are several duplexs on Stewart Street, and one near the end had smoke billowing out of its gable end. The street number of the home on fire was #8.
A neighbour said everyone got out ok, but the residents of the duplex, and its attached neighbour, face an uncertain evening as power crews were on hand at the fire department’s request to shut off the power and secure the building.
At the time of the fire it was -10 degrees and overcast. Click to enlarge images.
