The public is invited to the opening of an art exhibit by artist Anna Rail at the Galerie ARTcadienne located at the Community Centre Carrefour Beausoleil on Wednesday, April 29th, at 6:30 pm. The exhibit « Ecclectik » will make us discover the Batik, a technical old as the world.
Anna Rail was born in an Acadian family in a small fishing village (Pigeon Hill) in the northeastern part of New Brunswick. She only start painting after her retirement from the Governement of Canada in 2003. She now lives in Dieppe, NB.
She make us discover the art of Batik by her artwork inspired by the sea, the wharves, the lobster fishing boats, as well as by her travels and the people she met, the vivid colors, the “whimsical”, the smell from the terraces.
When she retired, she immersed in the watercolor medium; a hobby that became a real passion fueled by her daily encounters and new experience. Her inquisitive nature led her to discover Batik by chance. It is now her « niche ».
Batik is mainly known in the indonesian textile world, combining painting and wax. In her artwork, she uses Japonese paper only (handmade) because, being base on natural paper it offers a variety of desirable qualities such as; softeness, consistency, strength and flexibility. This art form requires a lot of patience according to the artist which mention that it is worth it. Because, immediately after removing the wax, it reveals little treasures.
The art exhibit by Anna Rail will open on Wednesday, April 29th and will be shown at the Galerie ARTcadienne at the Community Centre Carrefour Beausoleil, 300 Beaverbrook Rd in Miramichi until May 29th. Entrance is free of charge.
