Remembering Nelson Fair Schedule
Thursday – August 21
Pre-Teen Dance at the White School (Sponsored by: Nelson Minor Ball)
- Grade 3-5 from 6-8pm
- 6-8 from 8-10pm
Friday – August 22
- 8:30am-5pm – Nelson Post Office Letters: Pick up your letter at the post office, written by local authors, in the guise of Nelson’s favourite sons and daughters, as they recount key episodes in the parish’s 200 year history
- 6:30pm - Opening Ceremonies at the Nelson Rural School (NRS): You will not only hear dignitaries speak proudly about our parish but you will also see a bit of entertainment by some of Nelson’s very talented residents.
- 6:30-9pm – Historic Nelson Photo Display: Come see Nelson’s History on Display! You might see Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Dad, or even yourself in one of our great photographs or videos.
- 7:30-10pm – Kitchen Party at Bicentennial Park: Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the variety of talent.
- 10pm – Bicentennial Fireworks
Saturday – August 23

- 9:30am -3:00 p.m. – Miramichi Art Core & Bathurst Art Society Painting on Site.
- 10am – Family Walking Parade (North End St. Patrick’s Dr. to Nelson School)
- 10am-2pm –The General Store Outdoor Market at the Nelson Rural School parking lot.
- The Miramichi Wesleyan Church is hosting a market open to anyone. Bring your crafts, baking, preserves, woodworking, etc. (no yard sale items) Tables at $10; contact Robert at 773-3079 to reserve your space and table.
- 11am-4pm – Nelson Parish Lecture Series at Nelson School (Sponsored by FOB)
11am: Eric Trembley – “Flora & Fauna of Beaubears Island”
1pm: Shawn McCarthy – “Softball in Nelson”
2pm: Cyril Donahue – “Early Settlements in the Parish of Nelson”
3pm: Manford Wasson – “The Great Miramichi Fire”
- 11am-5pm – Quilt Show & Sale (Sponsored by Threads of Friendship Quilters): The show will highlight the work of the Threads of Friendship Quilters and will feature wall hangings, bags, and knitted items, in addition to quilts. Baked goods and preserves will be available for sale. Free admission.
- 11am – Learn to Play Softball Jamboree at the Merle Doyle Ball Field
- 12:00 noon - 3:00 p.m. - BIG BROTHERS/BIG SISTERS FUN ZONE

- 1-3pm – Give it a Shot Day the Nelson Ski Club: The Miramichi Ski Club will hold a shooting demonstration by several biathletes and opportunities for interested members of the public to try their hand as well. This is be held in the soccer field at the back of the school.
- 4:00 p.m. - Mass At St. Patrick Church
- 1:30-4:30pm – Music in Bicentennial Park: Miramichi is filled with so many talented people. Come and hear some of our wonderful entertainers. Bring your lawn chair. You won’t be sorry you came!

- 12-3pm – Big Brothers/Big Sisters Fun Zone
- 2-4pm – Sharing Our Ancestors With Their Descendents at Nelson School: Several families will be sharing the work they have done on their family tree, the N.B.G.S. resource books will be available for research purposes, and if you need help getting started we can guide you with it.
- 9am – 3pm – Miramichi Art Core & Bathurst Art Society Painting on Site
- 7pm-12am – Nelson High Class of ’69 Reunion: Get reacquainted with your class of ‘69 classmates at dinner in the private room of the Portage Restaurant at 7pm. Then, continue to the Gerald King Ball Field
- 10pm-1am – Dance the Night Away with the Dave McNeil Band at Gerald King Field: Tickets - $10 in advance; $12 at the door
Sunday – August 24
- 8am-1pm – K of C / Friendly Neighbour Seniors Breakfast at the White School: Meet some old friends and leave the clean up to us ($5/person)
- 9am – 3pm – Miramichi Art Core & Bathurst Art Society Painting on Site
- 10am -11am - "An Old Fashion Church Meeting" at the Wesleyan Church: Arrive in period dress - take a buggy ride, and sing some 200 year old songs...and hear an "old fashion sermon"
- 10am-4pm – Tours Through Time Depart from Bicentennial Park: Take the last opportunity to voyage back in time and hear the harrowing stories of the Acadians, the pioneering Scots, and the many people who have called the island home told by a myriad of historical characters. Tours will run on the hour starting at 10am, with the last boat leaving the for Island at 3pm. $10/person
- 11am-4pm - Historic Nelson Photo Display at Nelson School
- 11:00 a.m. - Mass At St. Patrick's Church
- 11am-4pm – Quilt Show & Sale (Sponsored by Threads of Friendship Quilters)
- 1pm – Washer Toss Tournament at Merle Doyle Ball Field (Sponsored by Nelson Softball): For Registration call 622-3263 Fee - $5 (All monies go to prizes)
- 1pm – U-16 Girls Invitational Tournament at Merle Doyle Ball Field
- 1:30-4:30pm – Music at Bicentennial Park
