Napan Agricultural Show goes this week

Big announcement of $1 million precedes Napan Agricultural Show. Money to be used to for covered arena to attract more and larger events.

The Napan Agricultural Show starts today, and the buzz around the fairgrounds will be about the $1 million the organization just received to allow it to improve its facility.

In 2012 the organization began a fundraising effort to come up with $100,000 so they could attract a government funding partner for the $400,000 - $500,000 they though they required to put a roof over their arena.

Earlier this week federal-provincial funding was announced that will allow Napan Agricultural show to build a new facility and host larger events during three seasons.  During the winter the facility will be used to store equipment.

ACOA and RDC are each contributing $498,000.

From their website:

In 2012, when Jack Walsh passed away in Alberta, he designated the Napan Agricultural Show as one of the organizations that you could donate to. The Napan Agricultural Show looked at what we could do with these funds. Years before his passing, Jack encouraged us to start putting a roof over our present ring. When the building committee checked this out, the cost of putting a roof over the ring and location of our ring being too close to the community centre, this was impossible. A new building will come in the form of an indoor arena. This would allow us to host the Napan Agricultural Show, as well as other events throughout the year, such as concerts, other horse shows, musical rides, barrel racing association, etc. The general public would also be able to rent the facility.

Members of the organization say that projected costs increased when they couldn’t go with original plans of putting a roof over the existing ring, and that steel prices have also increased a lot since the idea was first formed.  Her eis a concept of the project:

Here is a list of events for the show this week.
