Pat Colford says a lot of people, many from unexpected sources, have reached out to him already to offer support if he runs as the NDP candidate in the upcoming federal election on October 19th. They are going to get their wish, as Colford is set to announce he is seeking the nomination at an event tomorrow night at the Howard Johnson Hotel on Jane Street at 7pm.

NDP nomination meeting: 1 Jane Street (Howard Johnsons), Saturday, August 27th, 7 pm

In 2011, Colford finished second in the riding of Miramichi with 7097 votes. Tilly O'Neill-Gordon won the riding with 16,113, while the Liberal candidate, Keith Vickers, finished third with 6804 votes.

"You would not believe the people who have been contacting me and asking how they can contribute and donate. These are people I would never have expected would be approaching an NDP candidate and offering support," said Colford.

Colford believes this is a sign that even though the party in Miramichi is not as prominent between elections, there is still a lot of support for the NDP message leading up to the election, and feels he can represent the people in the new riding of Miramichi - Grand Lake well. That's why he is seeking the nomination.

"I have a history of standing up for people. I have been a union activist for the last 13 years, and I have been standing up for families on the river. I think the people of the Miramichi will appreciate someone willing to say enough is enough. Our community has been chipped away at far too long by previous governments."
