A standing room only crowd of concerned Miramichiers were jammed into the Newcastle Lions Centre last Tuesday evening to get answers to some of the concerns that that they had concerning changes to health care at the Miramichi Regional hospital. A presentation by Don Ferguson deputy Health care Minister outlined the financial situation faced by the province in the area of health care. Then a presentation by Don Peters, CEO of Horizon health network tried to reassure the audience that the Miramichi Regional hospital would see no downgrading in its Regional status and that the trauma designationa would not change. Nancy Savage who is responsible for the changes to the palliative care unit at the hospital also made a presentation as to how and why the changes are being made in that department.
Following the presentations the floor was opened up for questions for the panel. A wide variety of issues were discussed, with some questions drawing large applause from the large crowd. Questions about why the palliative care unit at our hospital were being changed seemed to get the most attention. Miramichi Online Cameras were there and captured most of the action. Due to the length of the meeting the video was broken into several sections and will be posted here so that all Miramichiers will be able to judge for themselves whether all the questions were answered to their satisfaction. The videos are being rendered and will be posted as soon as they become available.
