Miramichi to host 2019 Special Olympic Winter Games

Rotary and Auto Dealers Association chip on $40,000 toward Special Olympic to be held in Miramichi in February 2019

The 2019 Special Olympics Winter Games will be held in Miramichi next February. An effort spearheaded by Police Chief Paul Fiander and others was made a realty today with the official announcement. Dozens of athletes were on hand for the event, and the initiative got a boost from a $22,000 donation from the Association of Automobile Dealers of New Brunswick, and an $18,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Chatham.

The event will see over 300 participants from New Brunswick compete in the city in a variety of events. The games will require hundred of volunteers of which there is no shortage, said Fiander.

Sobeys supplied a ceremonial cake that athlete and local legend Ivan King had the honour of cutting. See the video below for all the details.
