MIRAMICHI - The Miramichi Timberwolves second half woes continued Saturday night as they were doubled up 6-3 by the Maritime Junior Hockey League leading Summerside Western Capitals.
The Caps jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first half and never looked back on the way to the win in front of 767 fans at the Miramichi Civic Centre.
Danny Chiasson started the goal parade for the Caps scoring at 8:35 of the first period. Jason Seed then made it 2-0 with a power play goal at 17:01.
Tyrone Sock then cut the score to 2-1 with a power play goal of his own at 17:30 before Craig McLaughlin struck short handed at 18:06 to finish the period 3-1 for the visitors.
Scott Trask opened the second period scoring with a goal for the Caps at 3:32 of the second. Mitch McMullin then made it 4-2 with on the man advantage at 6:11.
In the third the Caps finished off the T-Wolves with J.P. Harvey scoring at 2:13 and McMullin answering for Miramichi at 7:06. Michael Crocock then closed out the scoring at 10:10.
Julien Daigle ended up on the losing side of the score sheet stopping 30/36 shots. Kevin Bailie earned the win stopping 24/27 shots.
With the win, the Caps extended the overall lead with 68 points. The T-Wolves remain fourth in the Meek Division with 38 points.
The T-Wolves don't have much time to rest, they are back on the ice Sunday afternoon when the Campbellton Tigers visit the MCC for a 3 p.m. matinee.
The annual Skate with the Timberwolves will take place immediately following the game. Fans are invited to bring their skates and join the team for a friendly skate.
