Miramichi Sports: T-Wolves Beat Tigers 6-2

CAMPBELLTON - It doesn't count, but it's a good start. The Miramichi Timberwolves opened up their Maritime Junior Hockey League pre-season schedule with a 6-2 win over the Campbellton Tigers at the Memorial Civic Friday night.

The T-Wolves host the Tigers Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Miramichi Civic Centre.

The win was never really in doubt as the T-Wolves lead from start to finish. Ross Martin started the goal parade with the only goal of the first period at the seven minute mark.

In the second Miramichi added two more with goal a goal from Philip Richer just 27 seconds in and one from Brent Barnhill at 1:56. Andrew Meredith would cut the lead to 3-1 with by scoring with just 55 seconds left in the frame.

Things also got a little heated in the second with Campbellton's J.J. Allison and Miramichi's Jamie Russell and Marshall Worden getting misconducts for blows to the head, in separate incidents.

In the third, Billy Gaston tallied a marker at 1:55 while Ben MacSwain made his return to the ice as a Timberwolf complete with a goal at 5:50. Corey Coffin would put the final nail in the, um, well you know, with a goal at 10:22.

The Tigers would add another with just five seconds on the clock as Meredith collected his second, but it was too little too late.

Martin, Richer, Russell and Kent Small all had two point nights for Miramichi, who outshot the Tigers 35-23. The T-Wolves tried out two goalies, Stephen Miller, who picked up the win, and Sebastien LeBlanc. The Tigers went with Emile Boissenneault and Alex Bolduc.
