MIRAMICHI - The Miramichi Timberwolves picked up a big win Wednesday night downing the Amherst Rambler 5-3 in an entertaining, hard hitting, high energy game that delighted the 409 fans at the Miramichi Civic Centre.
The mid-week tilt moves the T-Wolves record to 2-3 in the Maritime Junior Hockey League witha home game scheduled for Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. against the Pictou County Weeks Crushers.
Miramichi General Manager and Head Coach Rob MacDonald said he was pleased with the effort of his young team.
"This is the type of team we want to be. this is the way we want to play. We do not have any superstars. the kids pulled together and worked hard. If we can give this effort all year, every night we're gonna be fine," he said.
The T-Wolves came out fast and hard in this game with Alex Scully netting his first goal just 42 seconds into the second to lead the game 1-0.
Then the T-Wolves got into penalty trouble three straight minors. Amherst would capitalize when Brett Arthur scored with the man advantage at 4:59. But Miramichi would get it back.
At 16:06 Scully netted his second of the period to give Miramichi a 2-1 lead going into the second frame.
In the second Tommy Bezeau extended the lead scoring at 7:09 while Rambler Jamie Bishop was in the box for cross checking. Bishop would atone for his penalty later in the period picking up a short handed marker at 12:10.
Billy Gaston then struck for Miramichi at 12:50 on the power play before Ross Martin scored the eventual game winner, and a beauty at that, at 13:21. That would chase starter Richard Tingley who gave way to Chase Marchand.
The Ramblers made it interesting in the third as Maxime Richard scored at 3:00 on the power play and Brett Shute scored at 5:02 to make bring Amherst within one goal of tying the game, but it was as close as they would get.
Jordan Kennedy picked up the win and first start honours stopping 24 of 29 shots. Tingley played 33:21 giving up five goals on 16 shots to pick up the loss. Marchand went 25:34 stopping all 17 shots he faced.
Scully, Gaston, Bezeau and Tyler Brown all had two points each for the T-Wolves. Scully had two goals while Bezeau earned the Gordie Howe hat trick picking up a goal, an assist and a fight.
