The newly formed Miramichi Mosquito AAA team have been working hard and at the Ken MacDonald Memorial tournament held in Douglastown they came close to winning gold. With strong pitching performances in the preliminary round from Shane Waters, Rylen Matchett, and Gehrig Hale, Miramichi had a record of 2-1 and were set to face Riverview in the semi-finals. While Miramichi had defeated Riverview handily in their game on Saturday afternoon, a different team showed up to play our boys on Sunday morning and after a hard fought battle and great pitching from Zach Perron, Miramichi came out on top by a score of 6-2 and were off to the finals to face the Fredericton Royals.
From the very first pitch of the tournament Miramichi was a determined team and the final game was no exception. Those who were in attendance were treated to a game that was completed in just under 60 minutes due to great pitching from Brayden Allain and defensive plays from Logan Walsh, Evan Carroll, Lindsay Millieua and Yvonne Basque, not to mention timely hits by Josh Cabel, Matt Clark and Matt Brennan. Although Miramichi was on the wrong side of a 4-0 score, in a post game interview with David Hale he said was very pleased with the teams progress and effort so far and he believes that a message was sent that this Miramichi team will be a team to watch as this baseball season presses on.
Your Miramichi Mosquito AAA will next see home action when they will meet up with the Dieppe Cardinals for a double header on Saturday July 14th at the Gretna Green Field in Douglastown, game time is 11AM.
