MIRAMICHI - The Newcastle Cardinals and the Grand Falls Cataracts will have to wait another day for Game 3 of the Miramichi Valley Baseball League final. The game was scheduled for Tuesday night, but rain has forced the game to Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Cardinal Park in Miramichi.
Grand Falls leads the best-of-five series 2-0 and can win the title and advance to the provincial finals with a win Wednesday night. The Cardinals, the defending league and provincial champions, will be looking to stave off elimination and force Game 4 back at Centennial Park in Grand Falls.
The Cataracts held off a seventh inning rally in Game 1 of the series in Miramichi Friday night to take a 3-2 win. In Grand Falls Sunday night the Cataracts pulled out a 4-3 win on a Eric Moreau RBI in the bottom of the tenth inning.
The final features the two top teams in the league. The Cataracts began the season with a 9-0 record, but eventually came back to Earth and finished in second place with a 17-7 record. The Cardinals took the pennant with a 19-4 record. The Cards also won the season series 4-2.
If necessary, Game 4 would be back in Grand Falls Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and a potential Game 5 back in Miramichi Sunday night at 7:30 p.m
